Here is another possible challenge. A writer could write a story as if they were one of their favorite characters or even as a favorite teacher from elementary or high school or even college.

A fun challenge would be to tell what would be a simple story, but from an alien perspective.

Could we prettiest of purrrfect pleases get a cat challenge this year? We could all use a laugh. Something satirical told in the voice of a cat real or fictional with photos en-furr-aged. Abigail Holmes and friends have been hoping for it for quite some time! (Please credit this idea to Cathy Holmes if you choose it.) Thank you!! - Signed Savannah 🐈

How about a soap opera challenge? Write dramatic story where the characters have so many secrets and so much baggage you can't help but to want to know more about their flawed existence. To make things interesting, it could be a 'dialogue' only challenge. Or a Comedy challenge. Or maybe it's a fictitious (or not) account of the author's life told in the style of a Soap Opera.

Oh I also love whenever you tie it to a book. It helps get the ideas formulated and organized. Not sure what book best fits early winter.

Is it possible to squeeze in one more fiction contest before the new year? I know there are tons of other varieties at the moment but I can't help being a bit sad there was no more fiction. Maybe a thriller? Mystery? Set somewhere cold? The runaway train was amazing. And of course a first sentence please 😊

A story or poem about what happens AFTER death. Reincarnation? Heaven or Hell? What's in that light at the end of the tunnel? Who do you meet? What do you do?

  • Just found this. Could be a goer. Epulaeryu The Epulaeryu poem is all about delicious food. It consists of seven lines with thirty-three (33) syllables. The first line has seven (7) syllables, the second line five (5), the third line seven (7), the fourth line five (5), the fifth line five (5), the sixth line three (3), and the seventh line has only one (1) syllable which ends with an exclamation mark. The form is 7/5/7/5/5/3/1. Each line has one thought which is about the main course. Therefore, this poetic form, the Epulaeryu, which has corresponding lines built around the main course and ending with an exclamation point, concludes with the ending line expressing the writer’s excitement and feelings about the poem. The poem may be rhymed or unrhymed. The Epulaeryu poem was developed by Joseph Spence, Sr. The name of the poetic form was selected as a result of experiencing the Mediterranean and Far East cultures, and enjoying many succulent and nourishing meals and food during those memorable travels.

I have a couple ideas. You could always make electricity a requirement in a poem or story. ⚡😉👍 Or how about geek fiction that requires a super hero (or super villain) Origin Story? And here's a real challenge: crafting some type of story (for horror, sci-fi/futurism, history, pride, even humor-- any community with a fiction tag) where the requirement is to write in *Second Person*. ⚡😉🫵⚡

Write a story about a psychopath who is acting like one. He doesn't know that he's a psychopath, he got the idea of acting like one due to his curiosity of the lives of psychopaths. His new neighbor who's a psychologist, she'll find the man weird and will decide to befriend him. As time goes by, the lady will discover that he doesn't know that he's a psychopath and his late wife is the reason behind his attitude. (Here the writers will write a back story about the man and his wife, a story which when read, it will justify the reason why he developped a psychological disorder) For the man he decides to act like one due to his curiosity. In his late wife's room he stores dead female private parts and has about 15 thumbs In his wife's fridge. She and her colleague will keep this a secret, she'll persuade her friend to help her in healing the man her colleague will agree. As time goes by she'll fall in love with him not minding their 15 years of difference in age. The psychopath has began to be normal, six months after her birthday she confesses her love to him seven days after her confession he commits suicide. Three days and Three nights later, she finds a box in the ceiling and it contains seven letters. After the funeral she's suspected of killing the man, this accusations is made by the man's step family. She stays in jail for a year with her letters and after she's released, she was released due to the letters her fellow inmate persuaded her to give it to the detective. In the first letter he talks about his regrets in life In the second letter he described how he felt when he first met his late wife. In the third letter he expresses himself and regrets not telling the police about the death of his daughter. In the fourth letter he explains the reason why he would have because a poet if he had met the psychologist earlier. The fifth and the sixth letters, he is grateful to have become ok and grateful to have met the psychologist. In the seventh letter he confesses his love to the psychologist and the guilt he has for being loved by her despite the kind of person he is. In all, this challenge is to first create awareness of our subconscious self , secondly, it's about the hypocrisy of humans just like the step family of the man. Thirdly love conquers all. I think it would be cool to have everyone pick one of their favorite literary quotes (either from a book or from an author) and write micro-fiction story of 100-300 words based on that.

  • Antoni De'Leonabout a year ago

A challenge for the Chapters community. Each person submits one series of 4-5 or so stories. Choose whatever genre and whichever community to base the chapters. Make sure each has all of the follow-up stories linked for easy access.

I wrote The Dying Light to explore the unreliable narrator's perspective—someone who may not fully understand or remember their own actions. The narrator’s fragmented memory and the surreal nature of events create doubt, leaving readers to question whether they’re deceitful, delusional, or simply confused. By blending fear, guilt, and paranoia, the story examines how our perception can warp reality, making us unreliable even to ourselves, while building suspense through ambiguity. https://shopping-feedback.today/stories/the-dying-light-k87h60268%3C/span%3E%3C/span%3E%3C/span%3E%3C/a%3E%3C/p%3E%3C/div%3E%3C/div%3E%3C/div%3E%3Cdiv class="css-w4qknv-Replies">
