Your seriousness, though defeated!
Just graduated that time, to a unit interview. The girl at the front desk said, please wait in the conference room, the boss is in a meeting, and will come in a moment. I am sitting upright because I feel that the door will be pushed open at any time, if I sit on all fours, the boss came in the first impression of me is not good.
Five minutes passed and no one came. 20 minutes passed and still, no one came. Did I begin to wonder why? Was there a camera in this room, in another room, and the boss was watching the interviewer's performance when no one was around? Once again, I straightened my back and imagined that this was not an empty conference room, but that countless eyes were watching me and testing me.
Finally, I waited until the boss came in, "Hello, sorry to keep you waiting." I thought to myself, "I did well just now, I should have passed this level of remote supervision."
Then I became a department head myself and started recruiting people. Sometimes there was a matter at hand that was busy, so I told the girl in charge of the matter, "You can ask him to wait in the conference room for a while." I thought it was something that could be solved in 5 minutes, but when I looked at the time, 50 minutes had passed.
I hurried to the conference room and found the candidate sitting meticulously at attention. "Hello, sorry to keep you waiting." The other side mostly maintained an upright posture and diplomat-like grooming: "That's okay."
Later, I was talking to a colleague about the psychology of the interview. She said, "Like you, I always feel that there is a camera watching me when I am waiting for someone and that the person I am going to meet is testing me, so I will be extra serious. However, in reality, the interviewer is busy and doesn't have time to pretend to have a meeting and observe you on the monitor for 40 minutes first.
There are many similar examples, such as meeting with people, I usually try to arrive on time. Being on time means that it's best to arrive early, and if you can't arrive early and say I'll see you at 10:00, don't just show up at 10:02. With traffic conditions like Beijing, it's very hard to do this.
Why do you want to arrive early and do others care? The response from most people is, "No rush, no rush, take your time!" You can find a hundred excuses for coming late anyway, but arriving on time is enough with just one principle.
I judge the qualities of a person by whether they are on time or not. People who are always unpunctual cannot be trusted, people who are often unpunctual think too much, people who are occasionally unpunctual have a slightly messy life, and people who are never unpunctual have great self-control.
There was a time when I was stationed in a field office. There were three people in the office, Ming and I were sent from headquarters, plus a Hong Konger, Bill. The boss came to inspect the office only once every other month, so the office was managed sheepishly.
The rule is to go to work at 9:00, among the three of us, Brother Bill arrives at 8:00, I arrive at 8:40, and Ah Ming usually arrives at 10:30.
Almost every morning when I entered the office, I saw Brother Bill sitting in front of the computer, I greeted him from afar, "Brother Bill, good morning!" Brother Bill has always taken care of me, and later I resigned from that unit, Brother Bill also contacted me a few times and gave me some opportunities. Brother Bill told me, "I think you are very serious, so I am willing to help you."
I asked him, "Is it because of this early arrival thing?"
"Not exactly, it's just that I see you've been doing a good job."
I took this opportunity to ask him, "Brother Bill, why do you also keep arriving early?"
Brother Bill said, "We Hong Kong people say, playing a job, earning a penny, we have to stand up to this boss, to this matter. Although in the unit is fine, in case something happens, I am in, it is enough."
This is not a matter of seriousness or not, this is the attitude of professionalism. You respect your profession, and others will respect you.
Seeing Brother Bill again was ten years later, we met at a dinner party. I hadn't seen him for ten years, but he had started his own business. He has more patience than me, in that unit lying for seven years, understands the industry, with ideas and contacts out of the business, the first year more than 40 million, the second year 200 million.
This is quite a fair result, serious Bill did not increase income because of the early arrival every day, but strict discipline, and respect for the profession, he relied on another way to prove the value of this persistence.
Probably all seriousness is also the same.
Most of the interview waiting are not monitored, you pick your nose or, lie down to sleep or are not likely to affect the results of the interview; most of the consequences of tardiness are not too serious, you make excuses or not will soon pass; most of the work state is not monitored, you secretly Taobao or, have been brushing the phone or, 50 times a day on the toilet or are not likely to be dismissed.
Seriously and not seriously is done for their own eyes.
Often your seriousness, only you know. But this point, but is vital.
Can figure this out, you do not have to worry about whether or not someone is monitoring you in the camera, whether or not someone is asking you to be on time, or whether or not someone is keeping an eye on your attendance. Because even if all this conscientiousness is not seen, it will subconsciously affect you and make you a better person.
Conscientiousness is a way to make yourself complete, even if it's not that successful or great, conscientiousness itself is a laudable virtue. And, even though you lose, you still have the honor.
It's a virtue that you deserve to have.
