Chapter 1
Meaning Of A Slave
A slave is something that has a bad connotation. A slave is a person who has no freedom, and is not in control of his or her life. Ever since human life began, I’m sure there have been slaves. Thousands of years ago in the middle east, there were slaves. Even less then two hundred years ago, America had slaves. Slavery has always been around, and is still around today.
I want to talk about another form of slavery today, and that is to any addiction you might have. Whether it is sex, drugs, alcohol, a bad relationship, or gambling, there are many addictions. Put simply, if you are addicted then, you are a slave to whatever it is that you are addicted to.
I remember when I was smoking a pack a day for years. At that time in my life, I was a slave to cigarettes. I could not stop smoking, not even for a day. I had to smoke all the time, and only stopped when I was really sick. It came to my attention that it was really bad for me, and also it was taking a lot of my money, which I had not much to waste at the time. So I decided to quit for those two reasons. It was a conscious effort, and it was not made lightly. I knew it was going to be incredibly tough, but I also knew I could do it.
This book is meant to encourage you, because I learned some things along the way. It is my wish to be able to set you free, whether it is from sex, or drugs, or gambling. Come follow me on this journey and I’ll help you to get through the finish line, and I swear you will be happier and more content when you are free. It has been over five years since I stopped smoking, and even though the first few months were tough, I didn’t give up. So buckle up and take notes, because your journey to freedom starts right now.
Chapter 2
Find Your Reason To Quit
I can promise you this, if you do not have a reason why you want to quit, you will never quit your addiction. If I hadn’t decided to quit smoking because I wanted to be healthier, and also to save money, then I’d still be smoking today. I would have no motivation to quit without a reason, and if I still managed to try and quit, I guarantee I’d come back to that addiction the second times got hard.
Only you can come up with a reason why you want to quit. No one else can make you quit, and no one else can quit for you. This choice to be free has to come from you and you alone. The reason has to be uniquely yours in order for you to have that first step to quitting your addiction.
Once you have that reason, hold on to that reason or reasons. When the first few weeks are happening without your addiction, times will be hard. It will take severe self control and discipline to stay strong. When you have that reason, that is one more thing to help you stay on your path to freedom.
Harriet Tubman was a slave. She was born a slave, and honestly would have stayed a slave, but she found a reason to try and be free. She was probably miserable, and mistreated, and she had decided that she would rather die trying to escape, then remain a slave. She ended up going 100 miles to freedom, almost died a few times, but she made it. Harriet Tubman found her reason, and she used that to help her get to freedom, even though it was a long and tough journey.
The rest of this book won’t even matter if you don’t stop and find your reason right now. It might be for your family, or for your health, or for your spouse or kids. It can be any reason, it just has to be yours.
The more reasons you have the better. Each one can strengthen you , and give you the motivation to keep going. Tape them to your bathroom mirror, so you see them when you wake up and right before you sleep. Think about those reasons every single time you are tempted. This will be a huge benefit , I promise you this.
Chapter 3
Find And Acknowledge Your Addiction
Without knowing your addiction, you will not have any idea how to fight it. If you don’t know you’re an alcoholic, you will never go to rehab or Alcoholics Anonymous. If you can’t recognize one is addicted to smoking weed, then you will never know that you need to quit smoking weed. Simply know that anything can be an addiction if you let it. Drugs, porn, video games, movies, sex, relationships, anything can consume you.
Finding your addiction is easily one of the first steps to beating it. It is hard at times, but it is important. Once you find it though, you have to openly acknowledge your addiction. Yell it out loud, write it down, but truly acknowledge it. Try and find what lead you down this path, but ultimately remember it was your decision to fall down this path, and its your decision to get back on your feet and fight this battle for your addiction.
Good luck with all that I taught you. The End
