Please, Someone See Me
A Personal Look at Depression

Thank you for opening and reading this. Every single read means the world to me.
Each time someone clicks and reads, I know someone out there heard my story, my thoughts, my heart.
As a new writer on Vocal, I’m deeply grateful to every person who gives my words a chance.
People talk about depression all the time. But have you ever truly seen what it looks like? Have you ever tried to understand what it feels like?
Today, let me tell you about depression in my words.
I don’t know much about all the fancy talk around mental health. But I do know one thing: depression is simple and silent, yet its impact is devastating.
How Depression Looks
It can look like a person who has everything… but can’t even lift a finger. They lack motivation, can’t dress properly, and stop caring for themselves because their mind is consumed by swirling, chaotic thoughts. Their head is filled with noise, so much that they can't focus on anything. It’s like they’re physically there, yet distant, like an illusion you can’t quite reach.
They may want to conquer the world but can't even put a smile on their face. Behind that face is a mind full of crumbling thoughts, eating away at the soul piece by piece.
A person who wears a smile in front of the crowd, who laughs and jokes, who looks lively — yes, even they could be suffering. Depression isn’t always loud. It isn’t always visible. It’s not a disease with a simple cure. It's the silent scream of someone whose world is collapsing, and no one sees it. No one helps.
How Depression Feels
Let me try to describe what it feels like, because that’s just as important to understand.
When depression truly hits, you feel it — physically. You feel the pain of your world falling apart. You try to hold the pieces of yourself together, but every movement makes you lose another part of your soul.
It’s like being trapped in a dark maze. You run and run, but you can’t find a way out. It’s frustrating. It’s painful. And the scariest part? No one’s guiding you. You’re all alone.
It feels like you’re stuck in a dark box with no windows. You can hear the whispers of others outside — laughing, living — but you can’t reach them. You want to scream, but no words come out. It’s suffocating. You can feel life slipping away from you, and yet… you can’t do anything.
All you want is for someone to find you. But no one is looking. Not even the people closest to you see what’s happening. You want to beg: Please, someone find me. Please, someone give me a hand. Please, anyone, can you hear my weeping cries? My dying soul? My silent prayers?
I’m dying here… but the world doesn’t even notice.
What We Can Do
Humans talk so much about humanity, but often fail to notice when someone is truly in need. So many struggles can be softened, so much pain can be eased, just by someone being there. Just by reaching out.
Most people will help a homeless man, an elderly woman, or a lost child. They might feed a hungry puppy in the street. And that’s beautiful. But what about the well-dressed person standing right next to you, who’s breaking inside? They need help too.
I’m not saying one deserves it more than another. I’m saying this: don’t judge a book by its cover. Just because someone looks okay on the outside doesn’t mean they are.
Sometimes, all it takes is a hand. A word. A little light in their darkness.
This is how I see and feel depression, through my own eyes and heart. If you’ve ever felt the same, or even differently, I’d love to hear your thoughts too.
