Being an Introvert
I’m going to start off with a pretty simple question… how much does a polar bear weigh? Enough to break the ice—Hi, my name’s Haley. You see being an introvert resorts to weird questions, subtle clearings of the throat, or maybe some readjustments in a chair that to some extroverts may seem rather strange or conspicuous. It all started when I moved from California to Florida my summer leading into sophomore year. I was very much an extrovert that would talk to all walks of life: from the jocks, to the nerds, to the cliques, you name it. When we moved across the entire US from coast to coast I internalized my voice and found this huge weight upon my shoulders. Oh no, you can’t smile too much then it looks like you actually want to be in school, but wait you have to smile or else you’ll have this natural bitch face that everyone thinks you don’t want to talk to them and are angry at the world.

Depression
Depression is the biggest liar I have ever met. It tells you that you are useless and unworthy. It tells you that you should be ashamed of yourself and it tells you that you are the worst person in the world. It tells you that you are hideous and inferior. It tells you that you are unlovable and alone in this world.

Somewhere Between Certainty and Doubt
Belief is in our blood. We will kill for our ideals, ideologies, and belief systems. We naturally seek certainty and structure, yet we all grow weary of structure as time chugs along. We tend to doubt. We doubt our morals. We doubt our worth. We doubt our perception. Our fickle brains take sledgehammers to everything that we once believed to be true. Order descends into chaos as the dragon of doubt burns down the kingdom we have spent centuries constructing. Better things grow from that destruction. Flowers reach from the stone the very next spring, giving way to brand new ideas. Certainty and doubt should not be mutually exclusive, for they are both very necessary. Juxtaposing certainty and doubt creates extremes that will only destroy and leave us stagnant.
