In order to study the best frequency of sexual life

Sex is a decisive feature of marriage and has a profound impact on the relationship between husband and wife. However, there is a fact that the frequency and quality of most couples' sexual life will decline in the early stages of marriage.

A survey on the frequency of "sex life" among adult married men in the northern region (2011) is as follows: A questionnaire survey was conducted on 2,300 adult married men aged 20-40 who had a health check in the andrology department of a hospital, and analyzed their age and occupational category. Correlation with frequency of sexual life.

result:

(1) The average frequency of sexual life of married adult men in the region is (7.35±3.59) times/month;

(2) The frequency of sexual life of people who work mentally is significantly lower than that of people who work physically (as shown in Table 1);

(3) The frequency of group sex life among young people is higher than that of older groups (as shown in Table 2);

(4) Occupation type and age are the influencing factors of the frequency of sexual life.

This result may be due to the decline in the physical condition of men and the decline in the demand for sex life as the age increases, which leads to a decrease in the frequency of sex life.

A weird experiment

The Department of Psychology at Florida State University in the United States did a strange and incomprehensible experiment in order to study the best frequency of couples' sexual life. In order to explore the relationship between courtship duration, pre-marital cohabitation, pre-marital cohabitation, the frequency of initial sexual behaviors of children and newlyweds, and the initial sexual satisfaction of each spouse member, psychologists have done a lot of detailed research and specific research process as follows.

In order to study the best frequency of sexual life, American psychologists conducted a wonderful experiment

Participants:

226 people (including 113 first-married heterosexual couples) participated in this longitudinal marriage study. Researchers recruited couples by sending letters to couples who recently applied for a marriage license in the county of the study site (Dallas County, Texas).

The average age of husband and wife is 28.06 (SD=5.55) and 26.80 (SD=4.75) respectively. 70% of husbands and 53% of wives work full-time; 13% of husbands and 12% of wives are full-time students. According to reports, the average annual income of husband and wife is 42990 US dollars (standard deviation = 47,162 US dollars) and 33,320 US dollars (standard deviation = 35,712 US dollars).

program:

After participating in the study, participants completed a series of surveys via Qualtrics.com or email.

The data includes a consent form approved by the local subject review committee, measures to evaluate the duration of courtship, cohabitation before marriage, whether the spouse has children, frequency of sexual behavior, and sexual satisfaction; measures to evaluate several covariates (ie age, education Degree, parental divorce, employment status, neuroticism, depression, chronic stress, marital satisfaction, marital conflict and perceived marital problems), and require spouses to complete the questionnaire independently of each other.

In the following 4 years, approximately every 6 months (a total of 7 follow-up assessments). These surveys include measures to evaluate the frequency of individual sexual behavior and sexual satisfaction, as well as measures to evaluate several covariates mentioned above.

Specific measurement materials:

Courtship duration

During the baseline test, individuals reported their courtship time by answering the question "How long were you and your spouse together before marriage?" Then we changed their response to a few months.

The reports of the husband and wife are almost completely correlated (r=0.99), indicating that the husband and wife’s courtship time for them is highly consistent. Nevertheless, in order to improve the accuracy of these reports, we averaged the reports of couple members to create an average courtship duration for each couple.

Whether living together before marriage

In the baseline test, individuals responded to the question "Have you and your spouse cohabited before marriage?" to indicate whether they cohabited before marriage.

Interestingly, the husband and wife members of the five couples provided conflicting reports, which may reflect the spouse’s reluctance to report premarital cohabitation due to social stigma, or may be the result of different definitions of premarital cohabitation (we did not provide in the survey) Clear definition).

Are there children before marriage

During the baseline examination, individuals report whether they have at least one child by answering the question "Do you have any children?"

Twenty-six husbands (23%) and 25 wives (22%) said they had at least one child; out of these 51, 22 said their partner was the biological parent of at least one child.

frequency

During the baseline check and all follow-up assessments, individuals reported the number of times they had sex with their spouse in the past 30 days by answering "How many times did you have sex with your spouse in the past 30 days?"

However, spouses do not always report the same frequency of behavior, including sexual behavior. Therefore, during the statistics, we averaged the reports of couple members to determine the average frequency of sexual behaviors of each couple.

Satisfaction Index

In the baseline and all subsequent assessments, we used the Sex Satisfaction Index (Hudson, 1998) to assess the individual's sexual satisfaction. Participants used a 7-point scale to point out how often 25 statements describe their sexual relationship with their partner (for example, "I think our sex life is wonderful"), where 1 = "No time" and 7 = "All time".

We average the data in each evaluation to form a measure of personal sexual satisfaction: the higher the score, the higher the sexual satisfaction.

result

These newlyweds had an average sex life of 11.87 times in the first 30 days, and their average sexual satisfaction was relatively high, which means that newly-married couples had no more than 12 times a month.

Couples who have a long (relatively short) courtship period have a lower frequency of sexual activity at the beginning of the marriage, but over time, their sexual frequency will also decrease. These effects are shown in Panel A of Figure 1.

After 2 years, this difference still exists (in the first 30 days, couples who had a longer courtship time had sex 7.03 times; in the first 30 days, couples who had a shorter courtship time had sex. The number of times is 8.58).

Couples who cohabited before marriage (and did not live together) had a lower frequency of sexual activity at the beginning of the marriage, and the rate of decline in sexual life was similar over time (see Figure 1, Panel B).

More specifically, at the beginning of marriage, the frequency of cohabiting couples having sex was relatively low, with an average of 9.03 times in the first 30 days, while couples who did not live together had an average of 12.94 times in the first 30 days; this difference is four. Still there after years, couples living together have averaged 3.53 times in the past 30 days.

Compared with couples without pre-marital children, couples with pre-marital children had similar rates of sexual life at the beginning of the marriage, but the decline was relatively small over time. These effects are shown in Panel C of Figure 1.

In order to study the best frequency of sexual life, American psychologists conducted a wonderful experiment

More specifically, at the beginning of the marriage, the average number of times that couples with and without premarital children had sex in the past 30 days were 10.49 and 10.18, respectively, but those with (and without) premarital children experienced relatively few The frequency of sex has dropped sharply.

For example, after 4 years, they had sex an average of 16.44 times in the first 30 days, while couples without premarital children had sex 2.94 times in the first 30 days.

In addition, couples who have lived together (and who have not) have a lower level of sexual satisfaction at the beginning and for a period of time; couples who have been in love for a long time (relatively short) have less sexual satisfaction over time The amplitude is smaller.

In general, the frequency of couples' sexual life gradually decreases with time migration. Newly-married couples are generally best 10-11 times a month, even after 4 years, it still needs to be maintained at 3-4 times.
