Chasing the Right Formula
For as long as I can remember, I’ve been obsessed with finding the perfect formula for success and happiness. Whether it was in my career, relationships, or personal growth, I sought out rules and guidelines to follow. I spent hours reading self-help books, attending seminars, and trying to implement strategies that promised to lead me to the "right" path. For example, I once meticulously planned my career trajectory based on a set of rules that seemed foolproof. But despite my best efforts, I found myself often disillusioned when things didn’t go as planned. The constant pursuit of this idealized formula left me feeling more stressed than satisfied.
A New Perspective

My perspective began to shift when I encountered Sadhguru’s teachings. His suggestion to abandon rigid formulas and embrace true involvement was a revelation. It was a stark contrast to my previous approach of following predefined paths. I remember feeling both a sense of relief and apprehension when I first heard his advice. It was liberating to think that I didn’t need to adhere to strict rules, but also daunting because it meant I had to rely more on my own instincts and engagement with the present moment.
Involvement Over Ideals
Sadhguru’s notion of “doing whatever the hell you want” with total involvement resonated deeply with me. For instance, when I started a new project at work, I initially focused on following best practices and achieving specific benchmarks. But I decided to shift my approach, embracing the process with full engagement rather than just adhering to a set formula. This meant pouring my energy and creativity into the project without being preoccupied with whether it was meeting predefined expectations. The result was not only more fulfilling but also led to unexpected and rewarding outcomes.
The Evolution of What Works
One of the most impactful realizations was that what works for me isn’t static—it evolves over time. I remember a time when I meticulously followed a daily routine that I believed was the key to productivity. However, as my life circumstances changed, this routine no longer served me well. Embracing Sadhguru’s perspective, I started to be more flexible and responsive to my needs and environment. I began to see that success and effectiveness come from adapting and learning from each experience rather than clinging to rigid plans.
The Power of Unprejudiced Involvement
Sadhguru’s idea of treating all aspects of life with equal attention was eye-opening. I used to view certain tasks as less important or mundane—like organizing my workspace or routine chores. However, I began to apply the same level of care and presence to these activities as I would to major projects or meaningful moments. For example, I found that when I approached my daily routines with mindfulness, I not only enjoyed them more but also felt a greater sense of accomplishment and peace.
Applying the Lesson
Incorporating this perspective into my life has been transformative. I’ve started to engage deeply in each moment, whether it’s a work assignment, a personal hobby, or a conversation with a friend. This approach has shifted my focus from seeking validation and adhering to external standards to experiencing life more authentically. I’ve found that being fully involved in the present moment brings a sense of clarity and fulfillment that rigid formulas never could. For instance, when I focus on truly connecting during conversations rather than worrying about what to say next, I find the interactions more meaningful and satisfying.
Embracing the Journey
Sadhguru’s teachings have helped me understand that there is no universal formula for success or happiness. Instead, the key lies in immersing myself fully in whatever I’m doing and approaching life with an open heart and mind. This shift from searching for external answers to embracing each moment with genuine involvement has been profoundly liberating. I’m discovering that in this involvement, I find not only a deeper sense of understanding but also a richer, more fulfilling life.
