I remember wasting my time trying to fix a relationship that has fulfilled its purpose because I was unprepared to willingly accept change and move on with my life. Frustrations and undue stress have always been the outcome each time I resisted change and tried to create an imagined preferable reality for myself.

Resisting change works contrary to your purpose because no matter how uncomfortable it makes you feel, change is vitally important in life.

Resisting change can birth mediocrity, hardship, and a life of little or no excitement. But accepting it is how you continue to position yourself to partake and experience many rewarding moments in your lifetime.

Below are four compelling reasons why you should push the unlock button and move on each time change comes knocking on your door:

1. Accepting Change is How You Position Yourself to Get The Things You Hope to Get in Life.

“Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes. Don’t resist them; that only creates sorrow. Let reality be reality. Let things flow naturally forward in whatever way they like.” —Lao Tzu

I struggled to accept change when I was younger because I was mentally unprepared to embrace and accept the concomitant discomforts of change. This was why I hesitated and struggled to move on when I was supposed to.

Change is an opportunity to discover yourself, identify your areas of strengths, and unearth some of your potentials. For example, after leaving school, I surprisingly realized that there are many things that I can excel at. The lines gradually became broader and brighter as I continued to accept change and move on to my next. and started working, I realize that I could do well in teaching. And earn money writing. I also helped many people to handle challenges and make better choices in their lives.

The thing about change and being appreciative of it is that without change there would be no way of getting all the things you hope to get in life. It’s only when you’re mentally prepared for change, and accepting it when it arrives that you can rightly position yourself to improve, advance, and actualize your goals.

2. Accepting Change is Challenging, but That’s How We Move Our Lives, Forward.

“The only way that we can live, is if we grow. The only way that we can grow is if we change. The only way that we can change is if we learn. The only way we can learn is if we are exposed. And the only way that we can become exposed is if we throw ourselves out into the open. Do it. Throw yourself.” — C. JoyBell C.

If you take a cursory look at the careers of some athletes with outstanding success, you’d notice that what makes their careers very colorful is that they always accept change, and are eager to step into their ‘Next.’ They neither rest on their laurels nor choose to remain with a team when they know it’s time to move on. They’re always willing to accept the challenge of either competing with new opponents or moving to a new sports team.

There were occasions when it was difficult for me to accept change. Instead of taking the direction that change opened up, I tried to create an outcome that I imagined would be better for me.

Life isn’t about sitting comfortably at one spot and expecting to always experience or receive the same thing that initially attracted you to that particular place. It isn’t about repeatedly doing the same thing and expecting a different result to pop up someday.

It’s also not about choosing to remain in one lane because it feels safe and relaxing while you watch others moving to the next stage of their lives to give their lives more meaning through another direction.

Life is about being comfortable with change because that’s the only way to change your life and become a different person. Life is about stepping into your next to receive the things that are rightfully meant for you.

Life is about exploring, experimenting to see what you may find — and taking deliberate and repeated shots at your dreams with the hope of hitting the target at any moment.

3. You Can Accept Change Without Struggle If You Begin to Acknowledge and Appreciate it.

When life points you to a path to take or something to start doing, it doesn’t mean it’s what you’re going to be doing permanently. You don’t know what it means except to step into that path; follow it, explore it, enjoy the journey and see where it’d take you to.

You might have some preconceived ideas or a desire of what you’d like to get from there, but that’s just it. Because conceiving any desire initially doesn’t mean it’s going to always remain your desire. It could either cease to be your desire after it has outlived its purpose which is to motivate you from the beginning. Or when you start enjoying unanticipated benefits with some new desires to keep you going.

You can accept change without stress and struggle when you begin to see it for what it is, and not what you would want it to be. You acknowledge that you’re not created to fit into any shape or to live a dull life, but to be adventurous, seeking, and invariably growing.

Change comes to usher you into the ‘next’ phase of your life. And you’d find it easy to accept change when you understand that you can’t empty your ‘next.’ And it’s by accepting change, being appreciative of it, and stepping into the next stage of your life that you can unwrap the gifts that come with change.

4. Accepting Change Makes You a Good Pilot of Your Life.

I’ve fumbled many times. I’ve faced disappointments and failed in some business goals. But these negative experiences weren’t meant for me to give up or to dwell in a murky pool of protracted guilt and self-blame, but to learn from them.

As the pilot of your life, the onus is on you to gain every knowledge and understanding you need to enable you to steer your life well and live a happier life. You’re not always going to get everything right, so it doesn’t mean you’re a terrible controller of your life if at any moment you find yourself in an undesirable situation.

Because you’re going to learn how to become responsible and a better leader of your life as you try to steer it out of any difficult situation and into the right path. This would be when you’d learn patience, perseverance, and hard work. You’d identify activities and lifestyles to desist from, and the ones to embrace. You expand your awareness and learn how to avoid snares that could get you entrapped.

Everyone grows from negative experiences like failures, disappointments, and setbacks. Choosing not to accept change because of uncertainties and fear of failure results in missing out on tasks and masked opportunities that would yield positive results.

Acknowledging the importance and inevitability of change is the first step to getting your mind ready to accept it when it comes. Change happens so that you can move forward and continue to create the kind of life that’s right for you.

It’s also through change that you can be able to create a lifestyle that would enable you to record many accomplishments in life.

Conclusion

“The snake which cannot cast its skin has to die. As well the minds which are prevented from changing their opinions; they cease to be mind.” — Friedrich Nietzsche

Change means releasing what you have to receive what you want. If you’re unsatisfied with your current job, change it. Begin to work on your diet and exercise more often if you’re dissatisfied with your weight and appearance. Change your friends if you’re surrounded by useless friends.

Change means letting go of every bogus and unhelpful feeling of satisfaction and stepping out of your comfort zone to start working on those tasks that you considered to be daunting but would make your life happier and more fulfilling.

“You can’t stop the future

You can’t rewind the past

The only way to learn the secret

…is to press play.” Jay Asher.

Don’t reject or resist change because of what you’re getting from where you are at the moment. Change means that your life doesn’t start from one place and ends in one place.

Change is an opportunity to experience something unique, and journey in a direction that would enrich and teach you new things about life.
