Crescent City and Drug Rehabs

By Emilie BeckPublished 5 years ago 4 min read

Crescent City, Florida. A sweet little town nestled about halfway in-between Deland, FL, and St. Augustine, FL, makes Crescent Lake home to around 2,000 individuals. Situated mid-way between North and Central Florida and about an hour and a half to two hours from larger cities like Jacksonville, FL, Crescent City gets the best of both worlds.

You can enjoy the warmth of Floridian sunshine. You can watch small lizards scuttle about in the dirt, go alligator watching, enjoy an enjoyable day on the beach of a lake or the Atlantic in or nearby the town of Crescent City. Or, you can drive out to enjoy the scenery of the cityscape, watch a play, walk down bustling streets, and enjoy a rich nightlife in one of the more lively, larger neighbors surrounding the small town.

Florida is a unique State, filled with many natural wonders and plenty of human-made amenities to enjoy. But its favorable weather and year-round opportunities for adventure in the sun make Florida into more than an ideal vacation spot, retirement plan, or even a place to raise your children. Florida is also one of the best places in the nation where a person can go to receive drug detox and addiction treatment services.

Principles of Substance Abuse Treatment - How Far We Have Come

Addiction is a public health issue that affects millions of people each year. For the longest time, our society frowned upon alcoholism and drug dependence, labeling these occurrences as negligent choices by a “lesser” side of human beings in our communities. But as time wore on, addiction rates climbed in multiple populations of individuals, and doctors, researchers, and other scientists began to dive deeper into understanding the mind, mental health. With the effects of substance use on the body, an understanding of addiction began to form.

We realized as a community that drug and alcohol addiction were not the results of choice alone. Addiction developed as a result of many outside factors, and that it was never anyone’s goal to become dependent on a substance.

We learned that addiction and substance abuse disorders are forms of a disease, not just a series of careless acts that can be halted on a dime. And we ran with that knowledge, working to not only better understand addiction and the human mind but also to make a series of treatment programs that can accurately and successfully help clients reduce and eventually quit their abuse of substances for the long term. As we have continued to help treat people, we have learned a lot about what works for additional rehab and what does not. Most importantly, we learned that substance abuse treatment needs to look different for everyone as addiction does not look the same for each individual either.

Secondly, we learned that there is a set of parameters for treatment that should always be followed for substance abuse recovery cases. Each person should be treated as an individual. They should be challenged, encouraged, taught, listened to, and given the proper amount of time to heal. And thirdly, we learned that healing is not always linear, and that is okay.
