During these trying times, many people who have never felt anxiety before are suddenly becoming overwhelmed with the emotion. Anxiety can be one of the hardest emotions to overcome, especially if you have never had to deal with it before. As someone who suffers from anxiety on daily basis, let me share my relaxation techniques with you.

My absolute favorite way to relax is to go to the beach. There is just something about the water that soothes me! I love watching the peaceful waves rolling in the water, the sound of them crashing onto the shore. I love the idea that the ocean expands almost infinitly, and I love imagining all the creatures within it. The sunshine beaming down upon me and the sounds of the birds and the water drowning every other sound out. Yes, going to the ocean is my go to way of relaxation. Going to the ocean or beach, however, is not always feasible. A nice, long bath will sometimes do the trick! Anything water-related is definetly soothing to me!

Another relaxation technique that I highly reccommend, is meditation. It's amazing to me how many people do not meditate! Meditation can be done anywhere. You can do it walking, standing, sitting, or even lying down. You can even download some meditations online and listen to them on the go. Meditating really helps clear your mind, and it helps you let go of all your stress and tensions. You can meditate however often you feel the need to, but I would recommend meditating at least once a day. Here is a link for youtube anxiety-relieving meditations

Taking a walk, or any type of exercise is an excellent way to relieve anxiety. It releases endorphins that trigger positive feelings in your body. Walking or exercising for 20 minutes a day is a good regime for maintaining a healthy mental status.

Your diet also plays an important role in your emotions. I notice that when I eat fast food or processed foods, my anxiety is much worse than when I eat healthily and drink plenty of water. Not only is it unhealthy, but it also makes you feel bad, bloated, and sometimes even sick. I try to eat as many vegetables as I can each day or at least make sure I am eating vegetables every day! Vegetables, especially green veggies, contain vitamin B, which is necessary for producing mood-enhancing brain chemicals.

Aromatherapy is good for relieving any type of stress. My favorite essential oil is cedarwood which is used for clearing your mind. Lavender is also good because its main purpose is relaxation. You can buy most essential oils at your local retailer, or you can even buy them online! Research them and figure out which one is best for you and your goals. And finally, go get a massage! There are so many benefits to getting regular massages (at least once a month), so why not take advantage of all the health benefits and relax at the same time? You can even get a massage in the comfort of your own home! Click here to find a massage therapist near you!

These are just a few of the techniques that I use on a regular basis to help with my anxiety, but you can find more online, or by visiting the links I provided for you. Thanks for reading!
