How long do you stay on social media? Until you make calculations, we will report on their dubious use. According to researchers at Baylor University (USA), the contemporary man spends about 9 hours a day with the phone in his hand. It is a colossal burden on the psyche and the body. Here are the consequences.

Complex generation

Many of us have favorites on Instagram, who have achieved significant success in fitness. So statistics show that viewing the social networks of successful people often results in decreased mood and self-esteem, thus motivating you to get similar results.

I recommend you watch the timeline on Facebook. You get the feeling that all your friends are just smiling, loving, inspiring, traveling, eating at a restaurant, living in luxury hotels, and staying in the gym all the time.

It creates that impression, doesn't it? "While I'm lying on the couch in a pair of old leggings and eating cake, flipping through the timeline…" to be able to cry out loud…

The following happens: the person begins to make a comparison between his life and the people in the photo. His life looks much darker on their background!

Or no one publishes their photos with compresses and coughs; when they are in a bad mood and sit all evening (or maybe even in a row) crying for pity; when it is only dust to the scalp because it does general cleaning and is on all fours with a cloth in its teeth… But the psyche is silent and does not suggest that in the life of all such frames are ubiquitous, they simply do not show this side of their lives.

It is important to be aware of this truth and to be inspired and motivated by these people, who have achieved greater results. But without getting caught up in depression and negative comparison.

Emotional impairment and decreased intelligence

We're DOSING our brains. IT specialists will understand what I mean. In addition, we overload the psyche: emotions perish with incredible speed, leaving no trace in the memory.

Ask yourself what you read/saw impressively on social media yesterday? You won't remember anything. Smiles, despair, pity, jealousy, envy, happiness, and joy, can follow each other every 5 minutes. Without leaving a useful imprint.

It's like putting skewers in the food processor, pouring yogurt on top, adding a dessert, borscht, and sprinkling with spices, then mixing everything. It will be impossible to eat, although taken separately the ingredients are tasty to lick your fingers.

Fatigue due to information overload

The brain processes EVERYTHING, what reaches it, EVERYTHING we see. When he gets nothing out of it, he gets tired. Psycho-emotional overwork occurs.

Don't forget the hours you sit still browsing the timeline. Lack of exercise has a detrimental effect on health. Along with the emotional concomitant, it causes sleep disturbances (this is what I wrote about (об этом мы писали here), stress and nervousness.

Garbage addiction for the brain

It's enough to open any social network and start bombarding your brain with gigabytes of superfluous information. This addiction is forming very quickly. And now you can't be quiet for half an hour.

The hand pulls itself towards the social networks to take a little more vacuum, which is an indistinct noise, absolutely useless for you. You don't even realize when you've lost 2 hours of your life, flipping through your timeline and files over and over again.

Omission of the most interesting information

If there is an advantageous offer to spend time in a picturesque place, but without WiFi and the ability to charge your gadgets, then many will refuse because such a trip could affect online social life. "As such, I won't be the first to like a viral post, I won't respond to comments, and I can't imagine not responding to a private message!"

At the same time, they forget that a living communication, with nature, with oneself, is much more useful and more important for everyone, to feel good.

We will write an article about digital detox. In the meantime, as an experiment, try to analyze a week in your life - appreciate the usefulness of everything you have done during this time (you can include in the analysis not only the use of gadgets):

Useful.

  • It helps me achieve my goals, dreams and have a better future.
  • It keeps me going.

Time wasted.

  • Remember that tomorrow is the first day of your life.
