Singapore Sling

Shook a Martini cocktail at Raffles

After sampling the Singapore Sling

Sank too many whiskeys in Boston

Discussing that new ceasefire thing

With an Irish Republican advocate

We talked and we talked through the night

A shame that the killing continued

Until Easter’s Agreement could bite

A pint in a pub on Newport Beach

The Ocean Pacific close by

Sipped a cool kir royale out in Paris

A sweet effervescent first try

A smooth pint of Guinness in Dublin

Is a drink that is sure hard to beat

A Bavarian pils at the airport

Departure a nice farewell treat

A vodka in harbour at Leningrad

Back in the USSR

And many more straight from the ice box

With a sailor who helped at the bar

I drank the man under the table

He couldn't have left if he tried

With his head in his hands the next morning

A hangover that left him tongue tied

I drank some more vodka near Tampere

In Finland all Forest and lake

With the sunshine still visible midnight

And carmine red sky very late

A beer with a "Skål" Copenhagen

Wonderful Wonderful place to be

A crisp fresh shrimp salad to snack on

Little Mermaid her gaze out to sea

A bold Bloody Mary for breakfast

To enjoy transatlantic mid flight

With Tabasco instead of a Worcester

A great boozy morning's delight

The Wild Turkey Bourbon distillery

Prohibited us drinking their brew

A party of unruly journalists

Decided to drink out of view

That old Perthshire Scotch whisky maker

Would consider that rule to be flawed

They said we must sample their product

To try some was practically law

Glass of Strega liqueur. Photo: RGT

A Strega in Amalfi quite something

Or Vinho Verde in sunny Funchal

A fruity fresh Spanish Sangria

With a spicy paella but how

Could such experience ever

Compare to the joy of a night

Drinking soda with ice in our garden

At sunset in summer

So right

O ~ o ~

This felt like a mini-Odyssey, Raymond, with such vivid descriptions I could feel and taste everything. Well done!

  • Hey, my hometown! And hometown drink. Did you know that the Raffles has this tradition....once the sling is drunk, you should eat peanuts to counter hangovers and scatter shells on the floor?

  • This should be in the PROOF community, great gin soaked words
