Preserved

left waiting to be re-opened

By Savannah K. WilsonPublished 12 months ago 1 min read
but will you ever want me later ... can one sit on a shelf too long?

Today it may sting for the short term, tomorrow will still

But leave me salted and preserved in thoughts of you

Thoughts of ... us

Safeguard me here for the day of your awakened hunger

Rather this than be chewed up and spat out by another

Who only seeks the short term satisfaction of my body

My heart, soul, mind … all that I am or will be, is yours

So let the salt drain away the nourishing water of you for now

Ready to be re-hydrated by your love in days or years to come

I will happily sit and wait until that day you reopen my heart

Unless consumed by her boundless fire, better I go to waste
