My Butterfly, My Sparkle
a poem from words of comfort

I never thought that I had a shine
Never believed I would sparkle
A thing of beauty passed before my eyes
Enraptured I watched their wings,
Flutter and dazzle me
…
However that creature is only passing
Not attracted to the sparkle of me
The shine I did not realise I had
Their light shone so bright upon me
I became weak ... dulled by it even
…
So I released them to spread their light
Elsewhere … with another, one for them
But it was not me
No, not me, my shine did not attract them
Their sparkle did not match mine, not that way
…
Yet, I know I sparkle now … I shine bright
Waiting for the butterfly to match my light
When will they flutter into my life? Time will tell
But when they come, my sparkle will never dull again
It will be clear for all to see, we belong ... we shine ... together

Someone said some words of comfort to me recently and I instantly knew I needed to write a poem inspired by those words:
“Don't let someone who doesn't see your sparkle, dull your shine. Let it go. You can't shine and attract your new butterfly if you're being dulled by the absence of someone who isn't even dulled by your absence.”
