The Nature of My Love is Not a Choice
I was raised in a very religious household in a very conservative town in Georgia. Whenever someone says that a person isn’t born gay—that it’s a choice—I have to wonder from whom they are getting their intel. It’s always a straight person who says this, and I think, How would you know? What makes you an expert on the complex and drastically unique experiences of all homosexuals everywhere? Please, show me your degree in Homosexual Studies.

Do we still need Pride?
Pride is a protest. This is a phrase that everyone in the LGBT+ community knows and says proudly. We say it recognition of the battles it took to win our freedom in some countries, and in recognition of the fight still to be had in others.

It’s International Pride Month. For many in the LGBTQ+ community, this is a month of celebration. Globally speaking, I can only hope there are many joyous events to bring our community together. Love is love, right? Everyone should have the right to love who they want to love and live the way they feel is best for them.

The Republican Religionists Feel Emboldened (for now)
In some ways, I “othered” myself by coming out as trans. At least with my children and my family of origin, dwindling as it is. I highlighted yet another way we are not “the same” in this world. That shouldn’t be a problem, but of course, it is potentially mired by words like “deceived” and “liar.”

Teen Trans
When you are so young, you never fully understand the gravity of what you are saying out loud. The words “I want to be a zebra” sound innocent enough, but even from there I remember not truly feeling like myself. The only Zebras I knew about were Marty from Madagascar and Stripes from Racing Stripes. Ironically, both of which are boys. I look back at it with everything I know now, and I realise this was how I first ever voiced my dissatisfaction with my assigned gender. And the reaction I got was enough to make me never say something like that again in my family.

we don't "choose" to be gay, just like you don't "choose" to be straight!
I just want to start this out by saying, this is (but should not be) controversial, and I’m sorry not sorry. I’ll argue about this and fight about it until the day I die. until my last dying breath.
