Indica Strains in the 19th Century
First documented trip was in 1884. Dr. Frank Dudley Beane detailed every, physical and emotional, thought and feeling of being on the hallucinogen. He was researching marijuana Indica strains. Born in New Hampshire, Frank retired to Florida at an early age due to illness and tragically passed at the age of 42. His contribution to the study of the effects of marijuana is understood best through the descriptive process of his personal experimentation.

Funniest Vintage Stoner Comedy Albums
Forget getting stoned and playing records backwards while watching muted classic films; the best mix of weed and vinyl came out of the 60s and 70s counterculture era - the immensely popular comedy albums. A group of original hipster stoners would get together at someone’s house, open the bedroom window, stuff the bottom of the door with damp towels, turn down the lights, turn on the lava lamp, drop into a beanbag chair, get baked and listen to comedy albums. Drugs figured heavily in the humor of the era because they were already becoming an important element in the lives of young audiences. Beginning with Lenny Bruce, the new comedy - while for the most part banned from TV and radio - was able to survive and ultimately prevail through the platforms of the digital era.

Dope Dealer Days
In 1963 I took my first hit of LSD, which in a way saved my life, since it stirred in me a desire for adventure that forced me to move out of the nest and away from the Bronx. The Bronx I left is now virtually gone, save for the few ghosts that remained out of fear. Most of my old Bronx ghetto friends from the dope dealer days are now either burnt out zombies, in prison, or dead.

Mushrooms of Palenque
The ancient Mayas, Aztecs and pre Columbian inhabitants of Central and South America worshipped divine power in the cult of the sacred mushroom. Their word for the hallucinogenic variety. “teonanacatl,” translates to “god's flesh.” This apparent reference to an alternative form of holy communion profoundly offended the Catholic priests who came to the “new world" with the Spanish Conquistadores. They went to great lengths to suppress mushroom worship among the natives and completely destroyed those cults which worshipped the mushroom as a fertility symbol.

Famous Marijuana Smuggling Plane
A memorable flight in a Lockheed Lodestar was a 2,000" takeoff run at a bush airport. The stats from Lockheed said this bird could clear a 50" obstacle at the end of a runway after rolling only 1,870". But that’s with a pilot, copilot, stewardess, and 14 passengers. Not to mention the weight added from marijuana smuggling. This version was different though: no seats, no gallery, no john, no door—stripped naked. Twenty-three of us skydivers huddled in the back. A clump of trees sat at the end of the runway that nobody was sure this 1940s relic could clear. The pilot revved up the twin Pratt and Whitney engines, 12,000 horse-power each. He lined up the three-ton princess on the runway and completed his checklist.

Ram Dass Interview

Long before PAX and Grenco Science,you had to depend on your wits to get high. There was a time when there was no bodega on the corner where a friendly immigrant sold you EZ Wider with a smile. In that era, there was no Amazon Prime to deliver the newest vape technology with free delivery. It was a time some refer to as the stone age of marijuana. It began at the turn of the 20th century. With the immense migration of multiple races, creeds, and religions into the massive urban centers of the great United States of America came a level of pot smoking ingenuity that would evolve into the multibillion dollar weed paraphernalia industry. As Apple began in a garage, many great weed ideas began in tenements in the south Bronx in the 1920s. People couldn't afford the ivory pipes the upper east side aristocrats used. While we are all thankful for America’s great consumerist ideology, there are times today when a stoner feels like he is stuck in the early 20th century, with nothing to turn to but his wits and creative juices infused with THC.

Maria Sabina's Mushroom Rituals
When I first attended a “velada” (vigil) sung by María Sabina in Huautla de Jimenez, and when on her invitation I first ingested the divine mushrooms, I was bowled over by the performance. It took place in the lower floor of the home of Cayetano Garcia and –his wife Guadalupe. Little did I know, Maria Sabina's mushroom ritual was one of a few catalysts responsible for introducing Psilocybin mushrooms to the Western World.
