Your Flowers Don't Bloom in My Heart

A Poem

Fragrant blooms on the kitchen table

Sweet, aromatic

Exuding perfumed mists of devotion

And alluring notes of romance

*

But is it romance?

Is it love when my heart is hardened from neglect

And my blood has dried from loneliness?

Does it even matter to you anymore?

*

Dehydration clogs my vessels

My heart pumps grains of desert sand

Thickened with remnants of a once gooey romance

Veins plastered with shedded tears

*

A place where nothing grows and flowers don’t bloom

Our love’s light has long darkened

Yet, you bring me flowers

An empty gesture as soon forgotten as I am to you

*

Your flowers mean nothing

Just another life ripped from the soil

And left in a glass cage to wither and die

Like our love

*

So toss your watery bouquet from the table

And feed the scorched soil of my broken heart

heartbreak
