You Started to Sing

The Letter I Never Sent

By D. N. ReyesPublished 4 years ago 1 min read

I was one in several dozen

Watching Eyes

and I didn’t know your name…

But it didn’t matter when

you started to sing

Time slowed down.

My heart beat quicker!

All I saw

was your auburn hair

and faint blue eyes

the moment you stepped

onto that stage…

And then,

you started to sing.

I was behind a crowd,

but I swear I could have been

in the front row when

you started to sing!

You sung some show tune

I still can’t name,

but to this day

(I swear)

it’s my favorite song

and yours is now my favorite name.

This all happened

one second after

you started to sing.

Courage came later,

when I spoke to you

in a quiet backstage room.

I just had to know

When hazel eyes met blue

Did you feel it too?

Did you see me

fall in love with you?

All because

you started to sing.
