You Never Were

A woman seeing what never was

I see you standing away from the crowd

A faraway look veils the window to your soul

A million miles your mind goes to parts unknown

I feel you reaching out to my soul

Don't know who you are

Don't understand this pull on me you have

Don't even think you even know who I am

Just another face in the crowd

But it feels like I've known you forever

Should turn and walk away

Should run and gather you in my embrace

Should evict thoughts forcing their way through the barriers and invading my space

Should usher you in and make you stay

Knowing it all can lead to heart break

The star of many daydreams

A man who bears no title

A man who wears no face

Just a collection of atoms that swirl then connect to make one being

Standing in bone and skin against the tree

As much as I stop and stare you remain unaware

You can't see from a far in spite being just three steps

The curtains you wear leaves you blind to beings around that only want to be near

I walk away as a tear escape down my cheek

I look back once more to brand you in my brain

You aren't there

You never were
