You Let Us Go

A Poem

Was my hair not curly enough?

Were my eyes too close together?

Was it my smile?

Why couldn’t you have told me?

Why did my messages have to go green before I knew you never loved me?

Was I not “cute” enough for you?

I was the open book, gave you everything I wanted on a silver platter,

you gave me the same fantasy,

why did our versions of the same book get mistranslated?

My butterflies within were a warning

to run away while still had gold keeping my heart in tact.

Instead I gave us a chance,

but you let us go.
