Behind The Mask

A Poem

By Angel AdagioPublished about a year ago 1 min read

Exuberant energy enticing everyone,

but none of it is real.

You create the fantasy of someone who cares,

who can love beyond measure, so much it can drown,

but rip the mask off, you are revealed

and you are everything you pretended not to be.

Cruel, rude, ungrateful,

and if anyone treats you the way you reflect,

you yell at the mirror.

You can't love yourself and you bring the world to its knees

to hopefully have some feeling in your black heart.

The hardest lesson to learn is that the mask will not protect you from hate,

it will just make you be hated more once you are truly discovered.
