You Don't Know Jack
Jack O' Lantern's Abecedarian

Abandoned by God and The Devil, both
Between is my scene; the earth, my dwelling
Carrying coal in turnip or pumpkin
Deranged grins are carved on my vessels bright
Evil I am not, nor am I that good
From The Devil’s clutches, my wit saved me
God wants nothing to do with my strange kind
Having died, I must wander the wide world
I will guard your door, but never enter
Jack of the Lantern am I; mark my name
Keep my lost soul in mind as you play ghosts
Laugh if you will, but my fate’s not funny
May your path after death be less painful
Never fool around with gods or devils
One might have some fun, but then, so will they
Power is meted out unevenly
Questioning the order of things yields pain
Reign over all of us do strange powers
Stupid it is to incur their swift wrath
Trick or treat as you will, but avoid tricks
Unless you can live with their heavy toll
Visions of my sad wandering, you’ll see
Weep not for old Jack, but learn from his fate
Xysters sharp scrape at my old, lonely bones
You are lucky, for once death has claimed you
Zoom up or down, your soul certainly will

The balance between good and evil is well-articulated. Incredibly written! 💌
I've always like the legend of the jack o'lantern. Xysters - new word for me. I thank you for that alone.
Oh dear. Now I feel bad for pumpkins. 😳
