Why do people try to bury the past?
Take it as this thing to get over,
To forget about.
When did we get to chose what to forget?
What to remember….
I’ve always been so fond of history,
That I’ve sought the past more than most.
And oh the chills it gives me,
When I see it come back in waves.
For even if we bury it,
I’m he earth presents it back.
And humans never learn from mistakes,
They do not know.
I shudder,
When I hear someone say….
Oh they’re being dramatic,
It’s an excuse!
I didn’t do it why am I being punished?
Get over it.
And I wonder how,
How do you not see that it’s still in you.
The past lives in you when you say
Such things.
It’s ugliness and darkness, holds onto us
And we refuse to listen.
Voice see cut out.
Women, children, nations…. A whole culture
Loses its voice.
So I ask you,
How can it possibly be left?
How can we chose one side of the past
Without the other?
To never accept our darkness and shadows
Only brings more darkness
As it screams to be recognized.
About the Creator

I am a Poet and an inspiring short story, one day novel writer.
I like to write in free verse mostly, but am heavily inspired by Emily Dickenson, and tend to create my own rules and ideas as well.
