Just like that—
when my kid was baby
I resolved,
after procrastinating,
for long years,
to learn psychology,
So I will understand,
her growing mind—
that of others too—
and keep her safe.
That was my goal.
Psychology is not easy,
but oh, so important,
the best shield around.
And I kept reading—
word by word,
concept by concept.
And something magical
happened to me.
Now I see,
what is hidden.
I listen to,
what’s not said.
Verbal talk is a distraction.
Facial expression,
body language—
can say it all.
I can see truth and lies,
clearly, crisply.
Our own family,
friends and relatives—
are not painting
the real picture,
trying to confuse me,
as if I’m gullible.
I feel empathy for them
and feel like saying:
Don’t weave stories.
I understand.
It’s just that
you aren’t brave enough
to share the shame!
You are,
a mortal human,
and so am I.
Don't try to be
seen as perfect,
always rational.
you can't be,
flaws, should be
your middle name.

Oh wow, that was a good call on your part to take up psychology. Loved your poem!
You have written such a fascinating poem, and good luck.
Psychology is a very interesting yet complicating to some degree subject. It is fun to learn for I was a psychology minor when I majored in social services and the few courses when I was in Teacher education. You learned your theories well. Good job for gestures and facial and vocal tones tell a lot.
