Yearning

And Remorse

By Julie O'Hara - Author, Poet and Spiritual WarriorPublished 3 years ago Updated 3 years ago 2 min read

My hands, knees, and heart

Are bloodied, raw and torn from

Holding onto the jagged sharp edges

Of the hard truth that you

Are gone and not coming back

I should have run after you

That misty, dark October night in Boston

I should have called out for you to stop

And begged you to come back.

I trusted that my thoughts, love and desire would

Make you just turn around.

Please turn around, baby.

But you walked away holding the hand of the one

Who would never genuinely love you

Not the way I could have or should have

Not like I so desperately wanted to

Not the way I yearned to

Not the way I needed to

I thought God would give me a second chance

Never realizing this would become my lifelong journey

That I would want you forever

That I would look for you forever

Spending my days and nights praying

To find you again

Walking the streets hoping to catch a glimpse of you again

Begging Jesus to bring you back to me

And although I may fool another one into

Thinking I am true to her

It will always be your sweet mysterious

Softness and warm

That I imagine and feel beneath me

When I seek release in the shadows of the night

It will always be your kisses I crave

When my soul is bereft with longing

For comfort and solace

I will look for you all my life

And I will seek you after death

If that is what the Universe wants me to do

You are meant to be mine

And I am meant to be yours

I will be with you for eternity

Protecting, loving and cherishing you.

My hands, knees, and heart

Are bloodied, raw and torn from

Holding onto the jagged sharp edges

Of the hard truth that you

Are gone and not coming
