Writer's Block
Writing about being distracted from writing.
Deafening is the whirring from the electric fan positioned before me.
It's too damn hot.
Sweat beads at my forehead as I try to write this poem, the closeness of heat suffocating my sinuses and stunting my fingertips poised fruitlessly at my keyboard.
Tonight, I need to write, but the humidity is unforgiving.
Racing thoughts clamour as I stare at the cursor that blinks impatiently after each unfinished clause.
An ice pack rests on my chest in futility, but the biting cold serves only to veer my mind more.
Computer screen bright and overbearing; the blue light pierces, unflinching as it refracts my unfocused gaze with astigmatism.
Tauntingly, the blinking cursor stares at me.
I stare back.
Overwhelmed, my gaze drifts to the bookmarks tab as I surrender to distraction, exhausted from the heat and intimidated by the empty text box pulsating in my vision with every second that passes; YouTube, Facebook, Twitter... A-ha!
Netflix! I publish the haphazard poem and close the tab as, finally, the perfect distraction presents itself.
