wretched ruminations

i don't dream of living in a world

where

compassion is weak

where bomb blasts outside a

window

wake children from sleep

i do not wish to live

in a place of cruelty

and dread -

sear me until i am dust

rip me apart

instead

i don't long to know of a place

where

corpses

are made to give birth

where working class people

with multiple jobs

yearn

to earn their worth

i cannot sleep in this frigid place

i cannot sleep within Gloom's embrace

i do not seek out malice

but bitterness bares its face

and i cannot stand to speak

of a land

where terror is greater than grace

i cannot fancy a

dead girl's mother

weeping

into empty space

yet trans women bring us harm

yet Black women raise alarm -

while men with masked faces

lock children in cages to starve

spill every drop of my blood

killers must be disarmed

i don't dream of living in a world

where

humans sleep on the street

families can't afford to eat

i don't trust rich men in power

whose

smiles

smell of deceit

whose mouths spout promises

they don't intend to keep

and i do not dream of vengeance

but unrest

summons me

social commentary
