Worth a Thousand Words
Picture Perfect
You’re in an empty field
Filled with mutual hope
He has his arms around you
Face inches from yours
Wearing a smile that
Shouts of happiness
And whispers promises
Of forever
Your head is thrown back
Laughter dancing on your lips
Eyes squeezed so tightly shut
You can’t see the look of
Dedication on his face
❀
I hold the photo in shaky hands
And stare at it through blurry eyes
It’s dated years ago
When he was young and
Oblivious to my existence
And the possibility of
Loving someone who
Wasn’t you
❀
I cling to the photo
Because I can’t grasp him
And try not to resent you
For the fact that you can
❀
A lot could’ve changed
In the years since that moment
But I force myself not to
Hope it took away the
Promise of forever happiness
That his smile whispered about
He deserves that much
(The person he chose
probably does too)
❀
I break for the picture
You smiled for
And crumble for the person
You laughed for
❀
It’s strange because
I don’t even know you but
I’d do anything to be you
❀❀❀❀❀

Fluid and desperate, this is just beautiful. Exceptional work.
Oh, I felt the heartbreak and melancholy in this. You really brought the emotions forward so well with such beautiful language. Well done, Poppy :)
