Workday Anxiously

Waiting To Go Home

Stressed at work, coffee cup

Hands wrapped around it feverishly

Mind at play with the thoughts of the day

Jumbled together anxiously

***

Dark blue eyes, peeking

Over the steaming rim

Watching my colleagues shuttle by

Looking distracted and fairly grim

***

The clock on the wall opposite my desk

Is where my focus hovers

Throughout the day, it never strays far away

Like I’m staring at my lover

***

At 4.55 I come alive

My first smile of the day appears

Paperwork I shove into a drawer

Whilst my workday stress disappears

***

Home by six, held in loving arms

My wife and I embrace and kiss

I smile as she charms me as only she can

Whilst my body relaxes into bliss

***

10 pm, off to bed

To dream beautiful sweet dreams

In the soft embrace of my loving wife

As my worries fall through the seams

***

7 am, the alarm goes off

My body begins to tense

The beauty of last nights slumbers

Slips off like an odd pretence

***

10 am…

***

…stressed at work, coffee cup

Hands wrapped around it feverishly

Mind at play with the thoughts of the day

Jumbled together anxiously…
