Words That Cut

Sharper than any knife

Words That Cut

A voice can wound,

without a strike,

without a hand,

without intention.

I learned this young,

when silence stung,

and simple lines

changed my days.

Some words stay,

long after anger,

settled deep

in hidden corners.

I carry scars,

small and sharp,

each one shaped

by careless tongues.

So now I speak,

as gently as I can,

choosing truth

without cruelty.

Because a heart,

once cracked open,

never beats

the same again.

Very True. The old saying "sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never hurt me," is simply not true. Wounds mend, but emotional wounds are with you forever.

How true you speak and write. Good job.

  • Words can cut deeply, and sometimes silence can be used to devastating effect. Another wonderful poem
