Wondrous Spark

Light breaks water challenge

With the sword of your light

Wondrous spark in the sky

Aureate my walls

When you set and when you rise

Reveal not just the shadows of the past

But the dancing leaves on the path

*

How they wave and say hello

Though they be just shadows on my path

Coruscating be your light,

Flashing and sparkling

On the surface of my tears,

Of my river

Of the seas

Marvelling

*

There’s hope in my tears

As they glitter, as they shimmer

That’s why I laugh at the days to come by the river

When the summer days are long

When the light hits the glass of my white rum

And I drown in my river

And my shards splinter

*

I will no longer be drunk

I will sparkle and shimmer

*

I will not throw stones at the ripples

Until my mind settles

And the tension in my shoulders

Gone

And the wind blows slow

*

Still

Still

White rum

The light will sacrifice the darkness

Until we are left with the one who owns

That

Wondrous spark

Shatter the noise with your light

But keep the silence alive

Still

Still

This is beautiful Caitlin. There are so many beautifully descriptive lines. I think these are my favourite, "Shatter the noise with your light But keep the silence alive." Well done

  • Whoaaaa, this was so beautiful and extremely powerful. And I learned two new words from you, aureate and coruscating. Loved your poem!

Caitlin, you nailed this. Such a beautiful poetic visual essence. I picture this line in my summer mind. ‘ When the light hits the glass of my white rum’

It's like the mind is the water, and it can ripple under the smallest of movements. I loved this, Caitlin. Well-written as usual. ❤️

Oh, this was stunning, Caitlin. Every time I try to pick a favorite line, I'm stumped. Those closing lines just left me to sit in silence and think. Loved this so much!!
