Wonderful What-If’s And Maybe’s

Contentment Comes

By Kelli Sheckler-AmsdenPublished about a year ago Updated about a year ago 1 min read

i’ve got a painted on smile

a smile bent out of place

see, i’ve been walking a mile

with this paint on my face

to cover the pain

exposing the joy

that’s been keeping me sane

tools i chose to employ

i used them to cover a debt

to payoff dues and some tolls

even ones i ain’t incurred yet

keeping my pockets full

full of hope and regret

a list of things left to do

my hair tied in a barrette

willing to play the fool

my give a damn busted

will do what needs to be done

betrayed when i trusted

now i trust only one

i’d know that face anywhere

she’s been with me awhile

never mind her hair

just take a look at that smile
