The Fire That Lit Up My Heart
A fire that burn’s eternally

The Fire That Lit Up My Heart
There was a moment I did not plan for,
A quiet spark that learned my name.
It moved through me without asking,
And left my chest warmer than before.
I had known heat from passing hands,
And light that fades when doors close tight.
Brief flames that promise everything,
Then vanish softly into night.
This was different, steady and brave,
Not rushing in, not asking why.
It settled deep beneath my ribs,
A constant glow I could rely.
It did not shout or stake a claim,
It asked me only to remain.
To trust the warmth I felt inside,
And stop rehearsing old pain.
It did not burn the world to ash,
It showed me what could still be saved.
The parts of me I thought were gone,
The courage I had mislaid.
I learned to tend it carefully,
To guard it from the wind and doubt.
To feed it truth and honest days,
And let false endings burn out.
Sometimes it flickers, sometimes low,
But never leaves me in the cold.
It waits through storms and sleepless nights,
More patient than I was told.
I carry it gently inside me now,
A fire that time could never steal.
A flame that knows my truest self,
And taught my heart how to feel.

I've been writing poetry since the age of fourteen. With pen in hand, I wander through realms unseen. The pen holds power; ink reveals hidden thoughts. A poet may speak truth or weave a tale. You decide. Let pen and ink capture your mind❤️

Sounds just like what happened when I met #2. #1 left (hooray) and 15 years later, #2 came into my life. I wasn't looking and didn't want it. He persisted and now, 32 years later, I'm happy he was such a pain as to not give up on me.
