Without You

You were the dream I couldn't shake awake from.

By Sam RogersPublished 3 years ago 1 min read

Lately, I’ve been having trouble sleeping

I can hardly tell if I’m awake or alive

The world has turned to frosted glass

And it's not misfiring synapses

Or ghosts in my retinas

Could I be hallucinating or am I mistaken

Without you beside me

I’ve been having trouble sleeping

Forced down my concoction of pills and elixir

Closed the blinds and my eyes

But rest doesn't come quicker

My vision's gone blurry

And this fog can't be shaken

I don't want you to worry

But I haven't been sleeping

I kept the ring that you gave me

And the ring you gave back

Tied on a string, resting against my chest

Is it too much to ask

For a second second-chance

Is it just me

Or can I still feel your heart beating

In morse, it reminds me that

I haven’t been sleeping

I’m tired and I

Miss your lullabies

And kiss goodnight

Counting stars like sheep

And whispered secrets

Play fights with nails like knives

Your soft snores like a white noise machine

Without you I’m tired and I

Haven’t been sleeping
