Wishes made upon the Promenade

Of sadness and a Thousand Wishes

Wishes were made upon the stones that lined the Promenade

Wishes of Love and Passion

But during a terrible storm,

Lightning struck the Promenade

Its walls crashed down into the river.

The next morning, the People of Italy screamed in despair.

For all of their wishes were now lost forever.

Over many years and many lifetimes,

the people wept upon the shattered remains of their hopes and dreams.

Many a lost soul having committed themselves to a drowning

From the pain and loss of that Promenade.

And over the years, a beautiful flowering vine grew.

And it grew from the tears of the People of Italy

And with each flower that bloomed,

The people found their wishes come true.

Some say that the drowned ghosts of the past had instilled life into its many vines

To ensure that the wishes eventually came true.

Others, however, fear the Promenade!

Calling it simply "the Wall"

These are the people whose minds became simpler and simpler over the years, filling with hate.

For, these are the people who had lost many loved ones to the depths beneath the Promenade.

Never forgiving what may seem to be the Unforgivable.

They tried to cut down the many boughs and vines of the Tree by the Promenade that now grew

Although, no matter how hard they tried, no matter the many boughs destroyed.

Every morning, the boughs would be rejuvenated.

For what no one can see, even those that cherished the Promenade,

Is this

"Sadness is a forlorn Beauty that is created by a Love lost"

But is, in itself, a Beauty all the same.

Therefore, in a way, the Sadness needed to be there to bring the tree to fruition, or else the Wishes of the People of Italy never would've come true at all.
