Wintering
let me slumber

It's that time of year
when the darkness falls sooner
the trees drop the last of their leaves
the air carries a chill and quiet calm
and the squirrels are busy gathering supplies
chittering their bustling work, tails flashing
+
nature holds its breath before the sigh
before the deep sleep
waiting to rest, to release
and recharge
there is a beauty in this cycle
a consistency in its embrace and acceptance
+
no one tells the ground not to freeze
or scowls at the sky
shaking fists at the gathering leafy piles
shaming the trees to be less selfish
or more considerate of others
no one judges the seasons for changing
the earth for needing this unrushed time
no one dares to wake the slumbering beasts
+
I told myself it would take time
and I was right, it did
(I do not think I will ever tell you
how much else it took)

I love this poem it’s so simple but powerful,, I read it few times and each time I felt more the broad aspect those perfectly chosen words.
Oh this is gorgeous. 'nature holds its breath before the sigh' is such a beautiful line. I love how comforting the thought is of nobody judging nature. And then that ending really hit me. So well written!
So true about the non judgmental rest. We could all use more of that. Nicely penned! 💕✨
