We spent forever
in the winter night
embracing the cold,
frost clinging to our lashes,
and the frigid wind
whipping at huddled bodies
nestled together.
Folding into each other
like a pile of purring kittens;
a matrix of bodies
knit together
to kindle a small
pit of warmth.
Our forever ended,
as we made our ways home,
chased away by the chill
seeping through our bones.
Yet, even as the cold
nipped at our heels,
rushing us back home,
a part of us stayed
in the winter snow.
Outside, under the
shimmer of stars,
a permanent part
of the still
winter landscape.
