She Spoke To The End

She spoke to the end of the room, not to me,

Her voice went past my waiting name.

Every word knew where it was going,

And none of them turned back.

I stood where the silence had weight,

Where meaning gathers and stays.

She did not raise her voice at all,

It was calm enough to wound.

There are exits that look like mercy,

If you are tired enough to believe them.

She chose one with practiced grace,

And left no echo behind.

I learned then how endings behave,

They do not argue or explain.

They move like truth finally tired,

And close the door without blame.

The room forgot us in seconds,

Walls resumed their ordinary breath.

Only I remembered how her words

Had chosen distance over death.

Some sentences are not cruel,

They are simply complete.

She spoke to the end,

And the end answered back
