Winter

Is Coming Today

Winter

Winds whistle through thinning pines

Invincible to the rapidly chilling air

November leaving for the next

Turning the page for the season

Extinguishing whatever warmth

Remaining from the sunlight

Intrepid is the lingering

Scent of pumpkin spice

Culminating at the bottoms of plastic cups

Overflowing with whipped cream

Millions of scratching pens

Inking letters to mythical figures

Nighttime turning darker sooner still

Giving way to shorter days

Time moves faster in the sunlight

Over hills and snowy white peaks

Daunting in their splendorous heights

Attune to the harmonious songs we sing

Yearning for springtime that is long yet to come
