It’s my deceased grandfather’s birthday today, but this is not a tribute to him in the conventional sense.

Instead, it is a tribute to what he stands for. Uniqueness, individuality, confidence, and curiosity. Grandpa was also resilient, having survived a few bouts of cancer.

Indeed, he was all these things, a free spirit who did this his way and found peace having lived life the way he did.

Happy birthday, Granddad, and hooray for individuality.

Wild

Unique

Mane unkempt

Legs a-flailing

Steps in untamed prance

Hooves covered in iron

Breaks in run sure and steady

Feral soul sure, unrestrained

Sharp eyes ever open and keen

Mind knowing where it should start its run

To the land where it finds its peace and place.
