Why Must I Let You Go

A Poem

I love you.

Never ever think

That I don’t feel the same way.

I have loved you

With a love

That can go on forever.

I have loved you

With a love

That isn’t afraid to die.

But I must let go.

You really know I should.

Though you might wonder

And though you might say

That you’d never understand,

Why I must let go

Of your hand.

I never planned

To hurt you.

But what could I do

If staying means

That I’d just hurt you more?

Never before

Have I loved

The way that I have loved you.

And never before

Have I cried

The way I’d cry for you now.

Tell me that somehow

Our love was not in vain…

Despite all the pain,

Despite the emptiness

We’d suffer

Now that all things

Must come to an end.

You’ve been a friend,

And you’d always be

The dearest one for me.

So embrace me

One last time

Before I go.

You know how much

I love you so…

And because I do,

I have to let you go.
