You pretend that you don't know me,

After all these years that have gone by,

You won't even say your name,

Even though you still talk to me like you

used to do.

You can't take your eyes off me when I walk

into the store,

We talk like it was yesterday,

Yet still;

You choose to ignore.

You know my present is full of happiness that

I should have had back then;

We haven't seen each other in forty years,

You couldn't have expected to find me single again,

The truth is,

Back then I gave you a chance to open the door

for more,

You chose to walk away from me,

Saying that you weren't sure,

But, here I am,

Still caring;

Still trying to take our friendship back,

But you keep pulling away,

Acting as if you don't care;

Though, deep inside, you know you do,

Is this friendship still there?

Only you can make that choice,

All I ask is you answer my nagging question,

Why do you keep walking away?

Knowing how close we once were.

    Losing a friend hurts more than people think it does.
