Why Do I Walk Each Day

I walk to be at peace with myself and my lord

Why Do I Walk Each Day

I walk to be at one with my life and my god

the stone path bends beneath my feet

the church bell waits among the peaks

its silence stronger than a thousand words

the mountain holds me in its shadow

its snow a crown for a sky too vast to name

the houses rest like prayers in timber

built with hands that knew both hunger and faith

I walk because the earth still listens

because the stream hums low behind the trees

because each step writes itself in silence

and I am not lost, only found in the climb

I walk to be at one with my life and my god

no riches needed, no jewel to bind me

only the air, the road, the stillness

and the voice that answers when I call.
