Who Is the Pensive Poet
For Gabriel's "Lost-ish" Challenge
My pen hovers above lines in circles
Spinning an imaginary composition waiting to be played
Each line a string of different instrument
Sound lingering in the air in hesitation for the crash
The collision of ink and thin fibers
Where word will bloom across the page in soliloquy
But in the meantime, there's a hush
A wondering, a mind wandering
Toward what it all means
To be a poet, a writer, a person in this crazy world
Where the more you try to find yourself
The more lost you feel
When the search for true and authentic identity
Leaves you even more confused and tatter-ended than in the beginning
Do we ever truly define ourselves
And answer the elementary question of "who am i?"
Or does it take a lifetime to only unveil the secret in your last breath before-
But for now, I balance my curiosity and responsibility on shoulders that have calloused internally
Try my best to stay in the present before rushing into a future unknown
Where every corner could lead to an unexpected experience
And hope that before my last breath, the pen hits the page
And dances a while

Fantastic work, Oneg; I deeply appreciate and am so moved by the vulnerable honesty about identity-uncertainty. It is something that I can certainly relate to, and which I think all of us can deeply feel if we allow ourselves to. I wonder if we'll find out who we are before the end too...but until then, I think such brilliant works as these can help us find our way bit by bit. Or at least find fellow-travelers with whom to share our time! :) Thanks so much for joining in my challenge with this lovely, lovely entry.
Keep that pen dancing, this was a brilliant read ❤️🙏🏻
Wow, this is so deep and thought-provoking!
Nailed it!!!
Excellent takke on the challenge. And so relatable.
lovely thought....lovely dance
Oh, I love this, Oneg! Wonderfully done!
Perfectly encapsulates how hesitant we can be to write as writers/poets. :3
I like that you started this with pen circling over paper. Visual and relatable and nice to know I’m not alone still writing a concept.
