WHO ARE YOU (Psalm 24)
Who in the world are you?
You think you can just waltz up on God’s mountain,
Right into his presence, no reverence as you please?
Pleeeease!
You’re talkin’ bout The One who used earthquakes to shape what we see
He grouped H2O molecules to form the seas
Plate tectonics? ..... yeah, that was His idea
The earth and all within it
Was His from the beginning
He thought it up
Birthed it, then brought it up
He formed the mighty Nile with his pinky fingernail
Painted the varied hues of autumn leaves with a single thought
So, I ask again, “Who in the world are YOU”?
To be so vain as to think yourself in the same vein as the Pierced One
Do you possess clean hands, unmarred by scars?
Unclaimed by hate?
Not yet dipped in and soaking in.... sin?
Do you rightfully claim a pure heart?
Upon whose walls are no tell-tale signs of gossip?
Within whose rooms can be found
No festering, lingering anger of years past?
Dare I ask,
If there be resentment stored up in its cellars
For later use?
From the abundance of the heart
The mouth speaks
When’s the last time you called someone stupid or fool or moron?
That verbalization is a commentary on
YOU more than them
So I ask again,
"Who in God’s world are *you*?”
Are you the one with clean hands and a pure heart?
For it is *that* one who will receive the blessing
Of his presence, approach with reverence
Tilt your heads upward oh, lowly ones
For high above you is the Holy One
Selah
And who in the world am I?
Just like you, I am no one.
