Who am I If They Don't Know

A Poem

A canvas thrown away

before the first touch of paint.

A plant barely visible

against the endless stars in space.

I look ahead to the single road

and know that the path before me is set.

So, I close my eyes

and pretend that the pain in my soul

doesn't hurt.

I look up to the expansive sky

and hope for something more.

While I smile and pretend

that the problems I create

aren't as real as the solid ground below.

When I look at you

all I can say is that:

"This is for the one who is confident,

May you always learn to express your dreams.

This is for the one who hides away,

May you always learn to follow the sun above.

(Is this the life we always wanted?)"

Running through life without hindsight,

waiting for another road fork to appear.

Quickly using the energy I've story away,

To hold onto movies I made on a single whim.

I've forgotten what it means to grow with the light.

I've forgotten what it means for love to start within.

There is a nagging feeling telling me

to venture off.

There is a nagging feeling telling me

to settle down.

There is always something to tell me

move without thought,

without reason,

to fall ahead,

and to run.

But all I can say is that:

"This is for the one who is confident,

May you always learn to express your dreams.

This is for the one who hides away

May you always learn to follow the sun above."

If I were to go into the escape,

where would I find the most happiness?

If I were to accept the experience of letting go,

where, in existence, would I end up?

(Is this the union we always wanted?)

This is for the one who is confident.

who yearns for something more

in the vast void of the world.

This is for the one who hides away,

who has yet to find more

along the single path ahead.

May you always see your dreams come true.

May you always feel the warmth of the sun.

May we realize that you

are me.
