White as snow

Red as crimson

tomorrow you will dress in white

a symbol of the desire for a purity of soul

a tradition of our people

ours, not mine

ours, not yours

mine and yours

how these words can stand side by side

a mockery of reality

and yet

I will also be in white

disguised like an angel

within the stains are too vast

to cover

crimson from the blood you spilled

blue from the bruises you rendered

black where I tried to burn out all

traces of you

invisible to the outside snowy shroud

that envelops truth

tomorrow I will try to erase

that too
