“Where love lingers in shadows, and secrets never sleep

by Huzaifa khan

In a town where shadows stretch and creep,

Where secrets lie in silence deep,

She moved like a whisper, soft and rare,

A ghost of moonlight tangled in her hair.

Evelyn came with the autumn breeze,

A stranger among the dying trees.

Her eyes held storms no one could name,

Her smile a spark, her touch a flame.

He was Jonah, a restless soul,

Haunted by cracks that time stole.

A painter trapped in colors dim,

Searching for light, for life, for him.

They met one night beneath a flickering street,

Where broken lamps and heartbeats meet.

She said, “I know what you’ve lost before.”

He laughed—“Stranger, you don’t know the score.”

But she smiled with knowing grace,

Tracing shadows across his face.

“Follow me through the midnight door,

Where love is pain and pain is more.”

He should have run, but he followed close,

Drawn by a thread no one else knows.

Through alleyways veiled in mist and fear,

Where echoes whispered in his ear.

“The past is alive, it won’t let go,

It clings to hearts that fear to show.

But love,” she said, “is the wildest art—

It breaks the soul, then mends the heart.”

They came to a house, cracked and old,

Where stories of sorrow were quietly told.

The door was locked, the key was lost,

But she held his hand, no matter the cost.

Inside, the walls bled memories dry,

Whispers that made the silent cry.

Jonah’s paintings hung in rows—

Faces he’d painted but never chose.

“Who are these?” he breathed in dread.

“Those are the echoes of loves long dead.

Captured here to never part,

Trapped forever in a broken heart.”

Evelyn’s voice was soft but cold,

“A warning written in colors bold.”

“Love can bind, love can betray,

Sometimes it takes more than it’ll repay.”

He felt her fingers brush his skin,

A shiver danced from toe to chin.

“Stay with me,” she urged, “just one night,

And I’ll show you love beyond the light.”

The clock struck twelve—a distant bell,

And shadows began their ghostly swell.

The walls dissolved, the world turned dark,

And suddenly, he felt a spark.

His heart was ripped, his vision blurred,

The echoes stirred and softly purred.

Faces from paintings reached to touch,

A silent scream, a desperate clutch.

Evelyn smiled, eyes like fire,

“Do you see now? The truth, the liar?

Love is not what you think you know—

It’s the place where lost souls go.”

Jonah tried to pull away,

But found his voice was gone to stay.

The midnight door had closed behind—

No key, no light, no way to find.

“Will you stay?” she asked once more,

“Or wander lost forevermore?”

His answer trapped between a sigh,

A whispered love, a haunted cry.

Days turned weeks, then months unseen,

Jonah’s brush lay cold and clean.

No colors bled from heart or mind,

Only shadows left behind.

But sometimes in that town at night,

When moon is full and stars are bright,

They say a painter walks the street,

Searching for the love he’ll never meet.

And by his side, a ghostly hand,

A whisper from a shadowed land—

Evelyn waits behind that door,

The love that lured him evermore.
