Whisper Over Thunder

By Julie O'Hara - Author, Poet and Spiritual WarriorPublished 3 months ago 2 min read

Verse 1

I stacked my wishes like bricks in the sky,

White-knuckle prayers, trying to pry

Open the heavens with maps and wire,

Telling the world, “bend to my desire.”

Chasing a mirage with a clenched, bright fist,

Counting constellations I tried to twist,

I called it power, I called it fire—

But the flame just fed the choir of liars.

Pre-Chorus

Then under the storm, a hush took hold,

Older than breath, gentle and bold—

Chorus

There’s a voice in the dark that knows my name:

“Let the river carry, not your reins.

Let reality midwife your becoming.”

Only one road bows to the Giver’s face,

Only one road lays down the race—

Only one of them will bring you peace.

Verse 2

I beat on doors till my knuckles bled,

Mistook the echo for truth instead.

But seeds don’t bloom because we shout;

They open when the rains come out.

Timing like tide, and grace like wind,

A path appears where the cracks begin.

I didn’t build the open gate—

I just arrived when love said, “Wait.”

Pre-Chorus

A softer vow beneath the noise,

A sacred choice, the oldest choice—

Chorus

There’s a voice in the dark that knows my name:

“Let the river carry, not your reins.

Let reality midwife your becoming.”

Only one road bows to the Giver’s face,

Only one road lays down the race—

Only one of them will bring you peace.

Bridge

I sign my name in the ink of stars,

Lay down the crown and all my scars.

I won’t force the clay to heed my hand;

I’ll be the breath that meets the land.

If it’s mine, it will find me whole,

Provision poured to fit the soul.

I’ll take the step the light reveals—

Gratitude turning all the wheels.

Chorus

There’s a voice in the dark that knows my name:

“Let the river carry, not your reins.

Let reality midwife your becoming.”

Only one road bows to the Giver’s face,

Only one road lays down the race—

Only one of them will bring you peace.

Outro

Not by the fist, but by release—

I find the Giver, and I find peace.
