whipping boy

a poem

I’d like to leave only the writings on the wall here

in red ink for their urgent attention

who, fully unaware

drowning in this strange kind of telephone despair

they’re pulling their hair out

trying to stand the boss

entrusting their welfare

on the side of the coin he chooses today

heads or tails, what's your fate?

up or down, left or right, decisions are made

he’s still wrong every day

beware of a bad mood

it could affect your job or worse

the most valuable asset of any company –

clients, even though they sound like scammers every time

forcing things, trying to speed processes up

without taking responsibility for it

even against all logical rules

it costs them nothing

in accordance with the principle

“the customer is the master”

master of threats and violence

mental cruelty and mass coercive control

cursing people who should be guilty, but they don’t

hear it at all

it only affects

the last weakest link

and nothing else may be contained

in these weakened waterlogged walls

with all the world’s

dirtiest dirt

that can never be erased

***

Tell me you work in a call center, phone bank or customer service. I'd suggest it might be Amazon, but my friend assures me that working customer service there is actually fun because you are both empowered & encouraged to make the customer happy. It's acquisitions that is a nightmare there, always feeling like you're trying to reduce the supplier to absolute minimum, even selling at a loss, or you won't market their product. At any rate, whatever it is, you've captured the essence of a precarious, unpleasant, hostile work environment extremely well.
